Composing & Arranging

As a composer Chris enjoys taking influence from a range of genres including folk, classical and jazz. His compositional work includes folk tune-writing, arrangements for ensembles and improvised pieces. Chris is open to commissions and writing to briefs. 

Early in 2017 Chris released a video of an arrangement of the piobaireachd MacKintosh’s Lament for piano, strings and vocals. Featured in the video is award winning Gaelic Singer Mischa Macpherson, Graham Mackenzie (Violin), Bernadette Kellermann (Violin) and Alice Allen (Cello).

In October 2017 Chris was commissioned by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Equality & Diversity Fund to compose music for Black History Month. This piece forms a part of the Merchant City project led in collaboration with Lori Watson to bring to the forefront and illustrate the extent of Scotland’s role in the slave trade.
